Charlottetown, PEI

Sixteen years ago, we spent several enjoyable days in Charlottetown. After hearing us talk about the place, the kids were keen to get off the boat, stretch their legs, and explore the town.

After dodging lobster traps in the Northumberland Strait, all I could think of was having a good feed of lobster in Charlottetown. During our last stay, John and I remembered a little corner restaurant that served up a great meal.  Luckily, we found the place again. The "Water Prince Corner Shop" is a small restaurant that serves up some of the tastiest seafood in town. The wait staff were kind, entertaining, and paid special attention to teaching the kids about lobsters and other random stuff.

It was not Anne of Green Gables that charmed our kids in this town. It was visiting the Charlottetown Public Library. We trudged through the rain one day with our Bomeschool books and set up at a table. We worked for a few hours before letting loose on the stacks of new books. As we could not check books out, the librarians kindly saved our books at the desk so we could finish reading them again the next day.

I felt a wave of appreciation for the staff and facilities at the Grimsby Public Library (and librarians everywhere) for fostering a love of reading, and teaching that libraries a safe haven for our kids.
Interesting choice of book, non?
Cozy reading corner
When we weren't eating or reading, we spent hours walking the streets, going to the market, and poking into crafty shops. And then of course, full circle back to Cow's Ice Cream.

A cold, rainy day is still OK to eat Cow's Ice Cream
After a busy few days of city life, I went to catch up on several loads of laundry at the Yacht Club. (I tend to do this chore late at night. Something about solitude and the warm dryer.) As I was loading moldy-smelling clothing into the machines and pumping in the loonies, the sign above the dryer caught my eye:

How true. And, so worth it!

As usual, we wanted to linger longer in Charlottetown. We could have had a few more days of good eating and reading, but a good weather window opened. On September 29, 2016 we headed out towards Halifax.
